How Green Walk OS Measures Impact

Verified material weight is the primary operational measurement. Estimated CO₂e avoided is a calculated environmental indicator derived from it.

How Green Walk OS Measures Impact

Verified material

Materials submitted through Green Walk activities are checked and classified by an authorised Green Walk volunteer/operator and weighed before being recorded.

Verified weight

The measured material weight in kilograms is recorded as the primary operational environmental data.

Estimated CO₂e avoided

Green Walk OS calculates an estimated climate indicator from the recorded weight:

Verified Material Weight (kg) × Applicable Emission Factor (kg CO₂e/kg) = Estimated CO₂e Avoided (kg CO₂e)

Methodology

The current Green Walk OS MVP emission-factor configuration references EPA WARM V16. Estimated CO₂e values are environmental estimates generated from recorded material weights and configured emission factors. They are not carbon credits, certified emission reductions or independently verified carbon claims. A zero factor for Food/Organic, Other/Residual or Hazardous/Special waste does not mean the material has no environmental impact — it means Green Walk OS does not currently calculate an estimated avoided-CO₂e value for that category.

Recovery stages

Material moves through four recorded stages, each confirmed by a different party:

  • Verified — checked, sorted and weighed by an authorised volunteer at a community station.
  • Collected — grouped into a recovery batch and released for transport.
  • Received — confirmed as physically received by the resource recovery partner.
  • Recovered — confirmed by the partner as processed into the recovery stream.

Estimated CO₂e avoided is reported from verified weight. Later stages record chain of custody and do not change the estimate.

Green Points

Green Points are a Green Walk community participation and reward mechanism. They are not carbon credits, financial assets, verified emission reductions or tradable environmental instruments. Lifetime Green Points record everything a participant has earned and determine their Green Level; the balance is lifetime points minus rewards redeemed.
